Nigeria and Tanzania are advancing efforts to establish direct flight operations between the two countries, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, boosting trade and tourism, and enhancing regional integration.

This development followed a high-level meeting in Abuja on April 9 between Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and a delegation from the Tanzanian High Commission led by Judica Elfadhili Nagunwa, Head of Chancery.

In a statement issued by Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to Minister Keyamo, the discussions centered on Air Tanzania’s formal request to commence direct flights to Nigeria. Mrs. Nagunwa conveyed her government’s strong commitment to deepening Nigeria–Tanzania relations, particularly through increased air connectivity.

“Launching direct flights will significantly strengthen trade, tourism, and people-to-people relations between our nations,” she said, adding that Tanzania is fully prepared to collaborate with Nigerian authorities to actualize the proposal.

Minister Keyamo welcomed the initiative, affirming that it aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to expand Nigeria’s aviation sector and reinforce inter-African partnerships.

“This initiative is in line with our broader goals of enhancing aviation ties across Africa. We will facilitate all necessary regulatory and bilateral processes to support its success,” Keyamo assured.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to sustained engagement between both countries’ aviation authorities to fast-track approvals and finalize operational arrangements.
