The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, in collaboration with the African School of Meteorology and Civil Aviation (EAMAC), Niamey, Republic of Niger, has successfully graduated 23 Air Traffic Control (ATC) cadets from its six-week Aviation English Language Course (AVEL-21).

The specialised AVEL immersion programme was designed to equip Air Navigation Service (ANS) professionals from non-English-speaking countries with ICAO Level 4 Operational Proficiency in English—a critical requirement for effective communication in international airspace.

Throughout the course, cadets engaged in real-time simulation exercises, interactive language labs, and aviation-specific practical modules, aimed at combining language immersion with operational exposure.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, NCAT’s Rector and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Danjuma Adamu Ismaila, highlighted the importance of effective communication in aviation safety.

“This programme is a testament to NCAT’s commitment to regional cooperation and capacity building. By equipping cadets with the language tools and operational insight they need, we are directly contributing to safer skies and more effective coordination across Africa,” Ismaila said.

He praised the cadets’ dedication and noted that the partnership between NCAT and EAMAC reflects a broader effort to foster regional integration and raise operational standards across African aviation.

Graduating cadets described the programme as transformative, citing the rigorous curriculum and hands-on experience as critical to their professional development. They also extended gratitude to NCAT instructors and airport staff for their support throughout the training.

With their new certification, the graduates are expected to return to their respective countries better equipped to manage air traffic with greater clarity, confidence, and compliance with international standards.

The graduation ceremony was attended by key aviation stakeholders and representatives from both NCAT and EAMAC, who commended the success of the programme and reaffirmed their commitment to future collaboration.
