The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has inaugurated the Joint User Hydrant Installation 2 (JUHI-2), the largest aviation fuel depot in Nigeria. Located at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, the facility was developed by a consortium of seven major oil companies. Keyamo praised the project, comparing it to the consolidation seen in Nigeria’s banking sector, and highlighting its potential to revolutionize the aviation industry.

Keyamo emphasized the importance of quality control and adherence to international standards in the operations of JUHI-2, which he described as crucial for enhancing safety and operational efficiency. He also noted that the facility will generate significant employment opportunities, further boosting Nigeria’s economy. The minister pledged ongoing government support to ensure JUHI-2 remains a top-tier asset for the country’s aviation sector.

The JUHI-2 facility, spanning 46,000 square meters, has a storage capacity of 15 million liters of Jet A1 fuel and includes cutting-edge features such as a modern filtration system, a fuel discharge system capable of loading four bowsers simultaneously, and advanced fire prevention measures. According to Patience Dappa, chairman of JUHI 2 Limited, the depot will provide reliable jet fuel supply to MMIA, MMA1, MMA2, and nearby airbases, enhancing Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure.

Dappa highlighted JUHI-2’s role in reducing delays and improving overall flight scheduling, which will enhance the competitiveness of Nigeria’s airports and airlines. The facility’s strategic location, advanced technology, and capacity are expected to position Nigeria as a regional leader in aviation, attracting international airlines and boosting trade and connectivity across West Africa.

The project is not only an aviation milestone but also an economic catalyst. JUHI-2 will stimulate growth in related sectors like logistics and transportation while contributing to Nigeria’s energy security. With its world-class fuel service capabilities, JUHI-2 is set to play a pivotal role in the country’s continued aviation development and global relevance.
