Deputy Superintendent of Customs (Pilot) Olanike Nafisat Balogun has made history as the first female pilot in the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), marking a milestone in aviation and public service.

A native of Odo-Otin, Osun State, and born in Kaduna, Balogun began her journey in 2002 as a Customs Assistant in the NCS Airwing Unit, serving as a cabin crew member. Through unwavering determination and institutional support, she transitioned from flight attendant to licensed pilot, achieving her dream with the backing of the NCS.

Balogun holds an Advanced Diploma in Air Ticketing and Cabin Services, a Master’s in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, and a Pilot Certification from the Flying Academy in Miami, Florida.

Reflecting on her journey, she said, “Staying with the Service while others left for more lucrative airline jobs was tough, but I was committed to public service and my dream of becoming a pilot.”

Her achievement has inspired women within and beyond the NCS to pursue their aspirations. “I hope my journey motivates young Nigerians, especially women, to chase their dreams and break barriers,” she added.

The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, praised Balogun’s dedication, calling her story a testament to the Service’s commitment to innovation and capacity building. “Her journey exemplifies what can be achieved with determination and support,” he said.
