A high-powered Nigerian delegation is currently in Spain for crucial discussions on airspace advancements, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for advancing air safety and security in Nigeria.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo and his Defence counterpart, Mohammed Badaru led the delegation on a three-day visit to Spain on a mission to strengthen the country’s security.
The visit titled “Air Surveillance for the Sovereignty, Security, and Safety of the Nigerian Airspace through Dual Use Technology Civil and Military,” is to enhance Nigeria’s air surveillance capabilities through cutting-edge dual-use technology.
This made known in a Press statement made available to the Journalists by the Senior Assistant Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Tunde Moshood.
The two ministers visited Indra, a world-leading company specializing in proprietary solutions for Transport and Defence markets, and a prominent firm in Digital Transformation Consultancy and Information Technologies in Spain and Latin America
The aim of the visit is to procure modern technology and facilities for enhancing the fight against insecurity, which is a top priority of President Tinubu’s administration aimed at ensuring safety and security across the country.
The delegates from Nigeria include Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, Chairman Senate Committee On Aviation Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo and Honourable Abdullahi Idris, Chairman, House Committee on Aviation among dignitaries from the aviation industry.
The delegation from Nigeria was received by the Chief Executive Officer of Indra, Jose Vicente de los Mozos, including Director for Institutional Relationships Spain, Retired General Francisco Almerich and Former Chief of Air Defence Command Centre, Spanish Air Force.
Additionally, discussions are underway for the development of a centralized Air Traffic Management (ATM) system at National Airspace Management Agency NAMA corporate headquarters. This system is expected to streamline and enhance civil aviation operations across the country, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to adopting advanced technological solutions for airspace management.
The integration of these systems will significantly bolster the capabilities of both military and civil aviation sectors, ensuring a robust, secure, and efficient airspace management framework for Nigeria.
This collaboration with Indra company marks a pivotal step in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to achieve world-class standards in air navigation and safety. It will further solidify the nation’s commitment to maintaining the highest levels of national security and airspace operational excellence.
