The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), under the leadership of Managing Director/Chief Executive Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has received widespread commendation for its transparent and genuine efforts to improve service quality and passenger experience at federal airports across Nigeria.
During a crucial meeting held on August 13, 2024, at the New Terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) expressed strong confidence in FAAN’s management. The meeting, organized by FAAN, brought together top executives from 20 airlines to discuss critical issues within the aviation industry and to align on the Authority’s future plans.
Mrs. Kuku opened the meeting by outlining her strategic vision, which focuses on key priorities such as Safety, Security, Culture Transformation, Digital Transformation, Service Quality, and Revenue Generation. These initiatives are set for immediate implementation, with the goal of positioning FAAN as one of the leading airport management organizations in sub-Saharan Africa within the next decade. Mrs. Kuku emphasized the importance of collaboration with the AON, stating that synergy between the Authority and airline operators is essential for elevating the standard of airport services nationwide.
The Vice President of AON and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Dr. Allen Onyema, responded with a strong vote of confidence in FAAN’s leadership and the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo SAN. Dr. Onyema praised FAAN’s commitment to excellence, stating, “When the government errs, it is our duty to speak out, but what we are witnessing with FAAN is worthy of commendation. The commitment to excellence is palpable. This is not a time for discord but for collaboration.”
The meeting also featured detailed presentations from key FAAN officials, including Engineer Abiola Muniru Adejare, Director of Engineering Services; Captain Abdullahi Mahmood, Director of Airport Operations; Mr. Henry Agbebire, Director of Special Duties; and ACP Afegbai Albert Igbafe (Rtd), Director of Aviation Security Services. Each director provided insights into ongoing efforts to enhance service quality and operational efficiency at the airports, showcasing FAAN’s dedication to continuous improvement.
The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, attended with her media team to ensure comprehensive coverage of the event. In a statement, Mrs. Orah highlighted the significance of the meeting and the positive feedback received from airline operators.
Several key resolutions were adopted during the meeting, including the need for more frequent and constructive dialogues between FAAN and AON, quicker response times to AON correspondences, continued advancements in airport infrastructure, and the digitalization of revenue collection processes. FAAN was encouraged to maintain its commendable efforts in delivering top-tier services, which have received positive feedback from both airline operators and passengers alike.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from both FAAN and AON to work together in enhancing the overall passenger experience and ensuring that Nigeria’s airports are among the best in the region.
