Enugu Air has taken delivery of a new Embraer 195 aircraft, marking another significant milestone in the state-owned airline’s drive to build a safe, reliable and efficient air transport service for Nigeria’s South-East and beyond.
The aircraft acquisition, announced in a statement by the airline, reinforces Enugu Air’s fleet expansion strategy and its commitment to improving operational capacity, passenger comfort and network reliability. Enugu Air is operated by XEJET, a Nigerian-owned aviation services provider.
The airline acknowledged the support and vision of Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, whose commitment to aviation development, it said, continues to enhance regional connectivity and drive economic growth.
According to the statement, the addition of the Embraer 195 represents another step forward in the airline’s journey to build a carrier that passengers can consistently rely on, while laying the foundation for future network and service expansion.
Enugu Air officially commenced operations on 7 July 2025 from Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, initially operating scheduled flights on the Enugu–Abuja and Enugu–Lagos routes. The airline began operations with three Embraer aircraft in the E170 and E190 series, providing flexibility and efficiency for domestic routes.
Speaking at the airline’s launch ceremony, Governor Mbah described the establishment of Enugu Air as a transformative moment for the state. He said the airline opened new opportunities in a sector that had previously seemed out of reach, describing it as “a giant leap for Enugu State” and a strong example of effective public–private partnership.
Mbah also commended XEJET for its role as the airline’s chosen operator, noting that the company is a fully Nigerian-owned entity with a track record of reliable, sustainable and successful aviation operations.
With the delivery of the Embraer 195, Enugu Air is positioning itself to meet growing passenger demand, strengthen air connectivity in the South-East and support commerce, tourism and investment, as it continues to build its presence in Nigeria’s domestic aviation market.
