Delta hosted its annual Women Inspiring the Next Generation (WING) Flight, taking 136 girls aged 11-18 from Atlanta to NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. The event, part of Girls in Aviation Day, featured an all-female crew on a chartered Boeing 737-900, marking the third year Delta has landed directly at Cape Canaveral.
The WING Flight, created in 2015 in partnership with Women in Aviation International, aims to introduce young girls to aviation careers, particularly in male-dominated fields. “The WING Flight shows young women what’s possible when they dream big,” said Beth Poole, Delta’s General Manager of Pilot Development.
Students from nine STEM-focused schools and organizations participated, enjoying a water cannon salute, breakfast, and tours of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. There, they engaged with NASA leaders and explored space exhibits.
Delta’s initiative highlights its broader efforts to increase female representation in aviation, where women make up 42% of the workforce but are still underrepresented in key roles like pilots and technicians. “The WING Flight celebrates future generations of aviation professionals,” said Gina Laughlin, Delta’s VP of Global Brand Communications.
