Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the commencement of Air Algerie’s inaugural direct flight service from Algiers to Abuja, scheduled for April 6, 2025. The launch marks a major milestone in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and Algeria and is a key outcome of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between both countries.

Operated by Algeria’s national carrier, the new route will run twice weekly using a Boeing 737 aircraft. It is expected to improve air connectivity, encourage tourism, and facilitate trade and investment between the two nations. The development also reflects the shared commitment of Nigeria and Algeria to expand cooperation in aviation, commerce, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Nigerian Embassy in Algiers played a crucial role in the realization of this initiative. The Chargé d’Affaires, leaders of the Nigerian community in Algeria, and representatives of the Algerian government are expected to be on board the inaugural flight.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated Air Algerie and pledged full support for the success and sustainability of the service. It emphasized that the new flight route, with its affordable fare structure and Algeria’s proximity to Europe, offers Nigerians a convenient gateway to the continent. This positions Nigeria as a strategic regional hub for business, tourism, and transit.

Citizens and business communities are encouraged to take advantage of the new air connectivity to explore greater opportunities in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two countries. The Nigerian government expressed optimism that this new service will further cement the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and Algeria and unlock new prospects for mutual growth.
