Africa World Airlines (AWA) has been officially inducted into the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Safety Leadership Charter, a significant milestone that affirms the airline’s dedication to maintaining the highest safety standards in the aviation industry.

The announcement was made in a joint statement by IATA and AWA, highlighting the shared vision of both organisations to continuously advance aviation safety. The Charter was formally signed by IATA Director-General Willie Walsh and AWA Chief Executive Officer Mr. Luolin Cui.

AWA’s Head of Safety, Andrew D. Asante-Amankwa, described the induction as a proud achievement for the airline. “This recognition highlights our unwavering commitment to fostering a strong safety culture across all levels of our organisation,” he said.

The IATA Safety Leadership Charter is a prestigious recognition awarded to airlines that demonstrate outstanding leadership, accountability, and a sustained commitment to safety improvement. With this induction, AWA joins a select group of global carriers that have pledged to uphold a culture of open reporting, proactive safety risk management, and trust-based employee engagement.

The Charter is built on the principle that a robust safety culture is essential not only for operational excellence but also for a resilient and thriving aviation sector. By joining, AWA reinforces its position as a leading West African airline, prioritising safety as a cornerstone of its operational philosophy and long-term strategic growth.
