The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, says the historic maiden edition of the Nigeria International Airshow underscores President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to repositioning critical sectors as engines for national growth, job creation, and global competitiveness.
According to a report by Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mahmoud speaking at the inaugural event held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, described the airshow as a defining moment that signals Nigeria’s decisive entry into the global aerospace arena.
She commended the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and his team for the vision, dedication, and innovation that made the landmark event possible.
According to Mahmoud, the Airshow represents far more than an exhibition of aircraft and technology; it is “a clear demonstration of Nigeria’s readiness to embrace the future of aviation, aerospace engineering, and modern mobility.”
She affirmed Abuja’s strategic role as the gateway connecting Nigeria to the world, adding that the FCT administration is proud to host this global showcase. The event, she said, reinforces the government’s ongoing work to strengthen infrastructure, policies, and investments required by industries that thrive on safety, efficiency, and innovation.
Mahmoud highlighted the expanded opportunities the Airshow brings for aviation-linked businesses, including logistics, hospitality, training academies, tourism, and technology within the FCT.
She also applauded the participation of airlines, aerospace companies, drone technology firms, maintenance organisations, and training institutions, noting that their presence reflects the confidence of global and regional stakeholders in Nigeria’s aviation trajectory.
“The Airshow creates a platform for young Nigerians to pursue careers in aerospace engineering, avionics, AI-powered mobility, and sustainable aviation fuels,” she said.
Mahmoud encouraged exhibitors and delegates to explore, network, and innovate in order to harness the vast opportunities presented by the historic event.
