Etihad Airways and Ethiopian Airlines have launched a new loyalty partnership that allows members of both airlines’ frequent flyer programs, Etihad Guest and ShebaMiles, to earn and redeem miles across their expanding global networks.
Effective October 2025, the partnership connects travelers to more destinations across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, offering greater flexibility, convenience, and value for loyal passengers.
Under the arrangement, Etihad Guest members can now earn and spend miles when flying to key African destinations such as Kampala, Lusaka, and Kinshasa, while ShebaMiles members can do the same across Etihad’s fast-growing network, including new routes to Phnom Penh, Krabi, Chiang Mai, and Medinah.
Ethiopian Airlines’ Group Vice President of Marketing, Mrs. Rahel Assefa, described the collaboration as a customer-focused milestone. “As a customer-centric airline, we are delighted to expand our passengers’ connectivity and flexibility in earning miles,” she said. “This partnership creates new opportunities for members of both programs and reflects our commitment to enhancing passenger experience through innovation and meaningful alliances.”
Mark Potter, Managing Director of Etihad Guest, echoed the sentiment, saying, “We’re delighted to welcome Ethiopian Airlines as a frequent flyer partner. This partnership expands the benefits available to our Etihad Guest members across Africa and beyond, offering greater choice, flexibility, and seamless connectivity. With the launch of our flights between Addis Ababa and Abu Dhabi, we’re proud to strengthen ties with one of Africa’s leading carriers.”
The tie-up builds on the carriers’ existing codeshare agreement, introduced in July 2025, as part of a broader strategic partnership to deepen cooperation between the two airlines. Both loyalty programs now provide members with expanded options to earn and redeem miles not only on flights but also through hotels, car rentals, retail purchases, and co-branded financial products.
With a combined membership base of over 17 million, the collaboration brings together Etihad Guest’s 19-year legacy and Ethiopian’s 26-year-old ShebaMiles program — enhancing recognition and rewards for frequent travelers across both networks.
The new partnership underscores both airlines’ shared vision to connect Africa, the Middle East, and Asia more seamlessly while rewarding loyal passengers with world-class benefits and global access.
