The Consumer Protection Directorate (CPD) of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is set to host a robust two-day Consumer Awareness Programme in Port Harcourt, aimed at educating air travelers and stakeholders on passenger rights and fostering a better travel experience.

Scheduled for December 4–5, 2024, the initiative seeks to address a significant knowledge gap among passengers regarding their rights and obligations, as well as the responsibilities of airlines and airport authorities. The events are part of NCAA’s broader strategy to enhance operational efficiency, service excellence, and global competitiveness in Nigeria’s aviation industry.

The programme begins with a Consumer Awareness Roadshow at Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, at 10:00 AM on December 4. Organized by Janvier Technologies Ltd, the roadshow is themed “Effective and Efficient Travel Experience Management for Increased Participation and Enhanced Regulation.”

Later that day, a Town Hall meeting will be held at LA Kings Event Centre, 31 Stadium Road, Port Harcourt. Themed “Repositioning the Nigerian Aviation Industry for Operational Efficiency, Service Excellence, and Economic Viability,” the interactive session will provide a platform for passengers to share their experiences and engage directly with aviation stakeholders.

The programme concludes on December 5 with a high-level conference at Osborn La-Palm Royal Resort, GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt. With the theme “Enhancing Global Prominence and International Competitiveness of the Nigerian Aviation Sector,” the conference, organized by Pliance Global Aviation, will feature expert presentations on consumer protection as outlined in the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (NCAR).

Captain Chris Ona Najomo, Acting Director-General of NCAA, emphasized the importance of this initiative in creating an informed air travel community and establishing a culture of service excellence across Nigeria’s aviation value chain.

“By closing the knowledge gap and fostering meaningful stakeholder dialogue, we aim to reduce misunderstandings and improve the overall travel experience for passengers,” Najomo said.

The events will include passenger interviews and stakeholder engagement sessions to gather real-time feedback. Discussions will also explore innovative ideas introduced by NCAA’s current leadership to enhance consumer rights and protect passengers from service disruptions caused by uncontrollable factors like weather.

Through this campaign, which began in Lagos last month, NCAA reaffirms its dedication to creating a globally competitive aviation sector that contributes to Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
