Eterna PLC, a leading integrated energy provider in Nigeria, has achieved a major milestone by receiving full regulatory approval to begin its Jet-A1 fuel operations at Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos. This significant step follows the successful commissioning of the Joint User Hydrant Installation 2 (JUHI-2) facility, which boasts a substantial storage capacity of 15 million litres of Jet-A1 fuel, the essential fuel for powering aircraft.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Eterna, Abiola Lawal, expressed excitement about the company’s new operations in the aviation fuel sector and reiterated its commitment to providing exceptional service. “Eterna PLC is thrilled to announce two remarkable milestones in our aviation fueling journey. Following the successful commissioning of JUHI-2, we have now received full regulatory approval to commence into-plane operations. This approval reflects our dedication to upholding the highest industry standards, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable fueling services for airlines,” Lawal said.
Lawal also noted that Eterna’s first fueling operation, recently concluded, marks a significant step in demonstrating the company’s readiness to serve the aviation sector. “Our team of experts is prepared to provide world-class services tailored to meet the unique needs of both domestic and international airlines,” he added.
The JUHI-2 facility, recently commissioned by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo (SAN), is the largest airside jet fuel depot in Nigeria. With the ability to deliver a minimum of 150 million litres of aviation fuel per month, the facility can supply 20% of the nation’s annual aviation fuel needs in just one month. This large-scale capacity is expected to enhance the efficiency of fueling operations and boost flight capacity at one of Nigeria’s busiest airports.

The JUHI-2 depot was established through a collaborative effort among several consortium partners, including Eterna PLC, Masters Energy Oil & Gas, Techno Oil & Gas, Rahamaniyya Oil & Gas, Ibafon Oil, Quest Oil Group, and First Deep Water Limited. This partnership reinforces the facility’s status as a key infrastructure project within Nigeria’s aviation sector, poised to meet the growing demand for reliable jet fuel services.
