Simon Tumba

, the Publisher and CEO of the nigeriatravelsmart.com is a veteran aviation and travel journalist with over 25 years experience in travel and aviation journalism. He’s an Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (ABU) Business Administration graduate, and cut his teeth in journalism at the defunct Concord group where he covered the Transport and Aviation sector for Business Concord between1989-91. In 1992, he became the founding Editor of Aviation International magazine, a pioneer aviation magazine in Nigeria.

Between 1990 to 2003, Tumba wrote for various global media including;  Airline Business (owned by the UK-based Reed Business Group), Air Finance Journal (owned by Euromoney), Commercial Aviation Report and African Airlines magazine, (now called African Aviation). In recognition of his contribution to aviation journalism, he won the Best Aviation Journalist Award of British Airways in 1991.

In 1995, he founded SY& T Communications Ltd, a PR firm (a company he still manages), where he led the company to handle government and blue chip brands including; British Airways, Michelin, Dornier, Dangote Group, Bi-Courtney (MMA2), Qatar Airways, Aero, Oracle, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Federal Ministry of Aviation and FXTM.

He supported and managed large-scale engagement marketing initiatives and media relations for these clients, including major product launches, crisis management, government/legislative liaison, media monitoring, research and social media engagement.

Tumba served in the Vision 2010 Aviation Committee, set up by the Federal Government and has attended workshops and seminars in over 17 countries. He’s married with three children.
