The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika has assured Nigerians that the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu will be reopened for operations by August 30. The Minister who was at the airport earlier this week to inspect the progress of the reconstruction noted that the runway was 95 percent complete.

The airport which was earlier scheduled to open during Easter was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With work just resuming at the airports some months, the contractors have been able to make significant progess, bringing the project to an appreciable level.

The minister during his visit expressed satisfaction at the level of work that has been done so far at the airport. He stated that the perimeter fence had been constructed and the airfield lighting fixed, assuring that other projects embarked on within the airport and the cargo area were also on course.

Sirika appreciated the Governors of the South-east for their commitment and cooperation adding that the terminal building which was about 60 per cent ready is expected to be completed and commissioned with the runway.
